Louisiana Jeweler Changed by Surviving Cancer
Tauqeer Imran draws on medical background to inspire others.
Tauqeer Imran lives in the New Orleans area and owns jewelry stores in Louisiana and Texas, operating under the names Mr. Goldman and Sons and Ron Jewelry. His interests, though, are as far-reaching as his outlook on life. Trained as a surgeon in Pakistan, he has returned regularly to offer his medical services to those in need. He has taken intensive online courses in archeology, inspired by his interest in the ancient history and civilization of Pakistan. He’s even worked as a model while in college. As a cancer survivor, he counsels cancer patients in support groups and hospitals and supports philanthropic efforts, including the American Cancer Society.
DIVERSIFY FOR SUCCESS. I think it’s always better to have your investment in different areas, not in one store. It could be something else, not jewelry. Don’t rely on just one income. If a rainy day comes then you’re gone. That’s what I learned from the last 12 years. I had 12 stores before cancer. After the cancer hit, I started selling them, but kept the best ones. My suggestion is to diversity.
A MESSAGE OF FAITH. I’m a completely changed person. My spirituality is on another level. A lot of people are going through cancer. They need to find the spirituality in them and faith. I believe I have the best, strongest faith that I never had before.
